ABOUT

Anne Mavis Fleming

This tournament is in memory of the late Anne Fleming, wife of Alexander Fleming of Meaford, Ontario. (Nee. Fallin, Scotland)

My Grandmother passed away of Cancer in January of 2010. Before the cancer had been found in her lungs, it had spread to the brain, therefore it was too late for the Radiation and Chemotherapy processes. We lost our Nana and I wish no person the pain of losing some one that quickly to this disease. My Grandmother also loved children, she was so kind to everyone around her and made up for all the comments my scottish grandpa would say throughout the grocery stores, pharmacies and most other stores! Since my grandmother loved children so much, we have teamed up with Susan Reid, of A Child's Voice Foundation in whom the profit of this tournament will be split with and the other half going to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

A Child’s Voice Foundation™ is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating and managing programs that tangibly support and enhance the physical and emotional well being of financially disadvantaged children in Canada who are facing illness or disability. Since its doors opened in 1995, A Child’s Voice Foundation has worked to improve the lives of children across the country through its programs, Angel Hair for Kids® and Kids Life Line™. These unique programs provide children with necessary products and services not otherwise provided by health care plans, levels of government, or other organizations. By working directly with health and social care professionals, the foundation is able to reach children who are falling between the cracks and have no where else to turn. The financial challenges that arise when caring for a sick or disabled child can be overwhelming, and A Child’s Voice Foundation is determined to provide the necessary care and support when all other doors have closed. Our focus is to provide assistance that will enhance the quality of a child’s life that will have lasting, long term effects. All applications received are assessed on an individual basis and the child is placed into the program that will best fit their need Our Mission: To support and enhance the physical and emotional well-being of disadvantaged children by providing products and services not otherwise provided by levels of government, insurance, or other organizations. We strive to fill in the cracks, bridge the gap and open a door when all others have closed. Our Vision: Our vision is for every child in Canada to receive the tangible support that they need to improve their quality of life. Our Values: We are committed to conduct ourselves with compassion, integrity and respect working in harmony with our community to fulfill our mission and vision.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation began raising funds for cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in 1982, and since then has raised well over $1 billion for this world-leading centre. The Foundation has pioneered many successful types of fundraising including mega lotteries and large-scale events recruiting thousands of participants/fundraisers such as our Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers and Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.

In April of 2012, we launched our BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE—a five-year initiative to secure $1 Billion to revolutionize cancer care by creating a new gold standard: Personalized Cancer Medicine. The four pillars of our plan to lead the way in this new approach to cancer care are shown below. (1-Detecting cancer earlier) (2-Diagnosing with more precision) (3-Targeting treatment for each patient) (4-Supporting patients and families throughout their cancer journey)

Our Mission:  To raise and steward funds to deliver breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.
